About Subrat
Theatre roots, real-world tech, and a lot of lived experience
I’m Subrat Kumar Chowdhary. I grew up in Kolkata and discovered theatre in the mid-90s. Those years were intense – rehearsals, late-night chai, small stages, and honest reviews in local newspapers. I worked in serious Hindi theatre and later joined IPTA in Mumbai, moving from a one-line role to the second lead in the same play within three months.
Parallel to this, I built a long career in software – working as a developer, consultant and trainer across India and abroad. I’ve seen how people learn, struggle, perform and sometimes lose themselves in the process.
Acting Lab brings all of this together. I’m not approaching you as a celebrity or as a guru. I’m approaching you as an elder brother who has been on stage, in auditions, in offices, in training rooms – and still believes in the craft and in the people who love it.

Do I need to be experienced to work with you?
No. You don’t need a long CV. You do need sincerity. Beginners are welcome as long as you’re willing to put in real work for at least a few weeks.
Will you introduce me to casting directors or get me work?
I don’t promise contacts or projects. My focus is on preparing you – your craft, your clarity, your presence – so that when opportunities come, you are ready to do your best work.
What language will the sessions be in?
Mainly Hindi and English, depending on your comfort. You’re free to express yourself in your natural way.
I’m not in Mumbai. Can I still work with you?
Yes. All sessions are currently online (Zoom or Google Meet). You can join from anywhere in India or outside.
How much do you charge?
I keep pricing accessible, especially for early-stage artists, and adjust based on what we are doing together. Once you reach out and share your situation, I’ll tell you clearly what it would cost – no surprises.
